The Opening Ceremony program this year began with a series of activities to welcome new students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, including speeches from the President and guests, honoring top-scoring entrants, and expressing gratitude to sponsors. Following this, the program broadcast the live national Opening Ceremony of the Ministry of Education and Training. For the first time, 26 million students in the country performed the flag-saluting ceremony in a solemn atmosphere, listening to the address of General Secretary To Lam and enjoying the uplifting spirit of a nationwide celebration dedicated to the education sector.

In his address, General Secretary To Lam emphasized the need for comprehensive educational reform – not only delivering knowledge but also nurturing character, physical health, and compassion, to cultivate a resilient, talented, and humane generation that will significantly contribute to the nation’s development in this new era. His message instilled renewed determination across Vietnam’s education sector, inspiring a shared vision of a modern, advanced education system.
Identifying the core mission of higher education institutions as key drivers in training and providing high-quality human resources, in establishing a solid scientific and technological foundation for the country, HCMUT remains steadfast in its vision. The university continually develops long-term strategies and makes substantial investments in research, teaching, and infrastructure. Nearly 6,000 freshmen of Class 2025 today are the next generation of talent, inheriting over 68 years of tradition of academic excellence of HCMUT, and ready to join the country’s high-quality technical workforce.
This is also the greatest expectation of Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong, President of the university, and the entire HCMUT community for the Class of 2025. He highlighted the opportunities and challenges of the country’s new development context, underscoring the pivotal role of science and technology in the new era, while urging students to cultivate adaptability and social skills in parallel with academic knowledge.
Representing the alumni, Mr. Ho Minh Tri, Standing Vice Chairman of BKA and Chairman of Phat Tien Trading Investment JSC, expressed deep understanding for the emotions and aspirations of freshmen, who are still bewildered yet full of enthusiasm. He encouraged them to cultivate a sense of responsibility, independence, digital competence, and language skills to connect with the global community.

Notably, at the Opening Ceremony, HCMUT honored four students with the most outstanding entrance achievements. In the combined admission method, the top-ranked student was Le Minh Khoi (Nguyen Trai High School, Khanh Hoa province) with a total score of 97.84. The top scorer of the 2025 VNU-HCM Competency Assessment Exam, Mai Quang Minh Tri (Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted), surpassed more than 152,000 candidates across two exam sessions, leading with a score of 1,122 out of 1,200 points. He was also the one with the highest result in the Competency Assessment Exam for HCMUT. Lam Minh Huy (Luong Van Chanh High School for the Gifted, Dak Lak province) and Vo Truong Gia Huan (Bac Lieu High School for the Gifted, Ca Mau province) were the top scorers in the High School Graduation Exam. The two also ranked second nationwide for block A00 with a score of 29.75.

Representing all the new students, Mai Quang Minh Tri was moved and proud to have enrolled in the talented learning community of the country’s leading technical university. “When I first entered high school, I did well in my studies and felt quite confident. However, after experiencing some setbacks and failures, I came to realize that past achievements do not last forever. What truly matters is the willingness to keep trying, to persevere, and to learn from failure to move forward on a new path.”, Minh Tri reminded himself while also sending a message to his friends not to rest on their laurels, but to continue writing brilliant days at HCMUT.

For the new 2025-2026 academic year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology is honored to receive more than 20 different scholarship programs from alumni, businesses, and scholarship funds, with a total value of approximately 10 billion VND. This is a valuable source of financial support that recognizes the excellent academic achievements of the students and simultaneously creates motivation for them to strive and make efforts. HCMUT sincerely thanks and always appreciates the sentiments and companionship of the distinguished delegates, esteemed guests, and sponsors over the past period.
