Tightening partnerships with the University of Technology Sydney and Monash University, Australia

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology-VNU-HCM (HCMUT) established a cooperative relationship in training and research with two leading universities in Australia, Monash University and University of Technology Sydney (UTS) respectively in 1995 and 2007.

Based on the previous effective cooperation and the desire to continue to tighten the partnership, especially in the context that Vietnam and Australia have just upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024, HCMUT has signed agreements with Monash University and the University of Technology Sydney. The agreement conclusion as part of a business trip of the Ho Chi Minh City delegation to Australia from December 12th to 18th May 2024 led by Comrade Phan Van Mai – Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu representing HCMUT joined the trip.

Signs cooperation agreement with UTS.

During a visit to the Sydney University of Technology UTS on May 13th, 2024, UTS Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President Glenn Wightwick emphasized that the cooperative relationship between UTS and HCMUT was important. The two sides have implemented joint programs in various fields, such as environmental protection, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, etc. On that basis, the two sides continued to sign a cooperation agreement on doctoral degree programs and renewed the deal on the HCMUT-UTS Joint Research Center.

The Ho Chi Minh City delegation had a discussion meeting with Monash University on May 16th, 2024. Monash University, ranked 5th in Australia (QS World University Rankings 2024), is a member of a group of 08 research universities in Australia with more than 150 active research fields, 74 research centers, 10 faculties, and more than 4,700 student researchers.

Signs a cooperation agreement with Monash University.

The initial cooperation between HCMUT and Monash University began in 1995 – 2000 with several joint research projects. Since then, the two sides have maintained the connection by co-organizing seminars, offering intensive training courses, establishing joint training programs, etc. Given the agreement concluded this time, the two universities will focus on developing key cooperative activities such as establishing a joint research center, maintaining and developing joint training programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, promoting student and faculty exchange activities, organising seminars, etc.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Phan Van Mai assessed that the elements of education, training, and knowledge sharing play a major role in maintaining a well-developed relationship between the two countries, so Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee hopes to further promote cooperation in education, training, and knowledge sharing among universities. From a government perspective, Ho Chi Minh City will support and create conditions for this cooperation to achieve good results in the coming time.
