Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE), also Industrial Engineering, is an engineering discipline devoted to the design, installation, improvement, and control of integrated systems of people, materials, and facilities in a wide range of organizations that produce goods or services. Like other engineering fields, Industrial Systems Engineering is concerned with solving problems through the application of specialized knowledge in mathematics. An important characteristic of Industrial Systems Engineering is its systematic approach to integrate the basic resources of production, people, information, energy, and other relevant resources to create a smooth, efficient and competitive operation. In the results, industrial engineers are needed in virtually all enterprises engaged in product design, process planning and scheduling, and so on.
Graduates from the Industrial Systems Engineering program have found employment in manufacturing industries, health care, Although Industrial Systems Engineering is one of the most important and popular engineering fields in developed countries, it came to Vietnam quite late in 1999. Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is proud to be one of the first three universities among more than 400 universities in Vietnam to offer Industrial Systems Engineering programs, these are Ho Chi Minh City Polytechnic University (1999), Can Tho University (2006), and International University (2009). Currently, many universities teach this program, but graduates from HCMUT are still welcomed by businesses because of their good quality.
We have strong teaching and research programs in manufacturing, logistics, service systems, quality management, operations research, and system simulation. The program is revised and updated periodically to meet the requirements of key stakeholders. We also have strong outreach programs that work directly with industry to allow students to reach, define and solve real-world problems from the real working environment and provide the latest research developments that are both state-of-the-art and applied. Besides, we have qualified academic staff who graduated from many prestigious universities around the world and equipped with strong teaching skills. Especially, we have a strong Industrial Systems Engineering network (including Industrial Systems Engineering alumni, students, and faculties) which creates a favorable condition for your life-long development. As the youngest member of FME, the Industrial Systems Engineering department currently administrates both undergraduate and graduate programs of Industrial Systems Engineering. The Industrial Systems Engineering department offers two degrees: Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial System Engineering and Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering.
