The meeting gathered over 1000 alumni of different student generations at HCMUT. For guests, there was a member of the Politburo of the Vietnamese Communist Party and Standing Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Truong Hoa Binh; a member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Teenagers, and Children Mr. Phan Thanh Binh; a member of the Party Central Committee and Ministry of Science and Technology Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat; Head of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization Mr. Nguyen Huu Hiep; Congressman, a member of the National Assembly Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Teenagers and Children, and Vice President and General Secretary of Historical Science Association Mr. Duong Trung Quoc; Party Secretary and Standing Vice President of Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan; Vice President of Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam; Director of Institute of Science and Technology and Innovation under Minister of Science and Technology Mr. Hoang Minh; District 10 Secretary Mr. Dang Quoc Toan. The Board of Representatives of BKA consisted of the Chairman Nguyen Ba Duong and other members. For HCMUT, there attended Chairman of the university Committee Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Minh Phuong, together with the other Committee members; HCMUT President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong; HCMUT Vice Presidents Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thien Phuc and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Danh Thao and leadership of the academic faculties and functional offices as well as students.

In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, the ceremony started with the torch relay session celebrating the 71st Anniversary of Pupils and Student’s Day (January 9th, 1950 – January 9th, 2021), which was performed by the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Student Union. The heroic martyr Tran Van On’s monument, placed in the university dormitory, was his first burial place. A photo procession of the heroic martyr Tran Van On, from the dormitory to the main university campus, took place. The delegation of the university leadership, alumni, and students joined the procession. The significance of this is to light the torch proud of the heroic, intelligent, and courageous traditions of Ho Chi Minh City’s youth and generations of university students. The image of the young of the university handing the 9-1 torch to Mr. Tran Ba Duong and Assoc. HCMUT was established in 1957 under the name of Phu Tho National Technical Center. Since then, HCMUT has remained one of the oldest technical universities and reliable multidisciplinary training, research, and technology transfer institution in the southern provinces and nationwide. Over more than 63 years, the BKA always shows their strong spirit, professional ability, and close co-professionalism. The BKA has achieved many successes in their careers, administration, and management at different levels, with many successful technocrats, businessmen, and famous engineers graduated from HCMUT. The establishment of a BKA Community Representative Board, as one of the largest alumni communities in the country, is an inevitable need of the university and its alumni.

After a good preparation for a long time, the alumni meeting officially on October 03rd, 2020, elected a Board of Representatives of BKA for the term of 2021-2023. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Automobile Joint Stock Company (THACO) Mr. Tran Ba Duong, an HCMUT student of the CK78 was elected Chairman of the BKA.
Over the two-month operation, the BKA Board of Representatives, in coordination with the university, has taken efforts to immediately implement necessary tasks, such as putting into use the office at B3 building on campus, building and collecting alumni database, continuing to consolidate the structure and personnel of the Representative Board. Up to now, the BKA Board of Representatives has completed the organizational structure and operating regulations and personnel with 132 members at the university and faculty/center levels, along with a highly concentrated orientation plan for the term 2021-2023 with the participation of the university leadership, deans of faculties/ centers and the BKA Representative Board at the university and faculty levels.

The Chairman of the BKA Board of Representatives Mr. Tran Ba Duong said the Alumni Community would support the university in many aspects during this term. These include constructing the administration building, establishing the Management and Leadership Training Institute in the form of an Education Joint Stock Company with the shareholders of the University and the Alumni; setting up an Alumni Community scholarship Fund and Student Credit Program; career-oriented and innovative entrepreneurship programs for students; building a Traditional House and Alumni Club. Also, there will be many networking and collaborative activities within the Alumni Community during this term.
HCMUT President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong stressed that over a short time of operation, the BKA Board of Representatives, a key part of the university and students, has achieved significant accomplishments, blowing a new wind to the activities of the Alumni Community and the university. The meeting is not only a festival but also a solid foundation for a new development phase of the BKA Community given the operation principle set by the Board of Representatives, namely “Pursuits of Tradition and Cooperation for Development.

The meeting also officially introduced the BKA Board of Representatives of 23 members. The Board is the core force for implementing activities to bring generations of alumni, students, and the university together.
At the meeting, the Alumni Community announced its Scholarship Fund 2021 established with total values at 15 billion VND and Student Support Credit Program.
Nearly 20 musical performances to show the passionate love for the university were by the Alumni Community. For alumni, the day back to the old university is not only about the joy of reunification but also together to show solidarity and noble responsibility with the university and juniors through a series of meaningful activities.

Thus, with the set objectives, directions, and tasks, the BKA Representative Board is increasingly promoting the role of connecting generations, supporting students, and contributing to the university’s development. In the coming time, the university and the BKA Board of Representatives will carry out many other rich activities, particularly in developing and implementing the university’s strategic plans to train students good at expertise and governance skill, significantly contributing to the science and technology revolution and the overall development of the country.
