Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology – Vietnam National University-HCM (HCMUT – VNU-HCM) organized an informal meeting called ‘Bach Khoa Gathering 2022’ on its campus the night of October 26, 2022 as a way to prolong the celebration for its 65th anniversary.
‘Bach Khoa Gathering 2022’ was expected to be a night of meaningful connection between generations of people loving the university. It welcomed the participation of Truong Tan Sang – former State President of Vietnam, Truong Hoa Binh – former Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam – Vice President of VNU-HCM, Tran Ba Duong – Chairman of the Representative Board for Phu Tho – Bach Khoa Alumni Community cum President of the Board of Director of Truong Hai JSC., Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong – President of HCMUT – VNU-HCM, local authorities, presidents of member universities of VNU-HCM, the Management Board and leaders, former leaders of HCMUT – VNU-HCM, leaders of BKA, the university’s alumni and business partners.
President of HCMUT – VNU-HCM Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong delivered his opening speech to welcome all participants and to brief prominent achievements of the university lately in the aspects of teaching and learning, gaining leading international accreditation. He also mentioned scientific research results of the university, saying that in the 2017-2022 period, there have been over 1,000 research projects at different levels, all of which are practical in solving socio-economic problems. The financial sources for these activities have increased significantly since 2018 to reach more than VND80 billion (US$3.22 million) in 2021. The university’s revenue from scientific-technological activities is ranked first in the nation, at an average of VND150 billion ($6.04 million) per year.
President Phong then announced that HCMUT – VNU-HCM is going to follow its strategies to maintain and then improve its current position in the region and nation as well as its image in the community in response of the trust of the Central Party and the State, the collaboration of its partners, the efforts and devotion of various generations of lecturers and students here.
After that was story and experience sharing from People’s Teacher Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Tuoi – former President of HCMUT – VNU-HCM. She recalled beautiful memories she had in her 45 years working here before her retirement. Be they the ups or downs, there always existed the strong determination of both employees and management of the university for the sake of its sustainable development. She felt so proud looking back at those moments, and wished to continue contributing to the growth of the university in the upcoming time.
Standing Vice Chairman Ho Minh Tri of the Representative Board for Phu Tho – Bach Khoa Alumni Community, student of CK85 cohort, also presented an emotional speech on the establishment and development of the university’s alumni community. He then expressed his high appreciation to all lecturers, who have actively contributed to the training of capable graduates from HCMUT – VNU-HCM, turning them into brave, resilient, and strong-willed people to serve the national social-economic growth. Finally, he restated the motto of Bach Khoa Alumni as ‘Contributing to the Development of the University and the Country while Bringing More Value to the Next Generations of HCMUT’. This is hoped to support the training process for new generations of students to become fluent in their profession, solid in management skills so as to spread the industrial spirit and build a stronger Vietnam.
After the speeches was a warming party, where participants could enjoy the company of one another and view a display of the transformation and growth of HCMUT – VNU-HCM during its 65-year operation from 1957-2022. The university particularly expressed its appreciation to the help and cooperation of its partners and the alumni community during its development
